We Speak Insurance — So You Don't Have To
Dealing with insurance after roof damage is one of the most frustrating experiences a homeowner can go through. Confusing paperwork, contradictory adjuster opinions, depreciation calculations, denied claims — it's enough to make people give up and pay out of pocket for damage that should have been covered.
That's where we come in. Our team has processed hundreds of successful insurance claims for Charlotte homeowners over the past 15+ years. We know exactly how adjusters evaluate damage, what documentation carriers require, and how to fight back when claims are wrongly denied or underpaid.
Best part: our claim assistance is completely free when you work with us on the repair. You pay only your deductible. We handle the rest — documentation, filing, adjuster meetings, and direct billing with your insurance company.
How Roof Insurance Claims Work
A complete walk-through of the insurance claim process — from initial damage to final payout. We guide you through every step.
Free Damage Inspection
We inspect your roof and document all damage with detailed photos, measurements, and written reports. This becomes the foundation of your entire claim.
File the Claim
Contact your insurance carrier to file the initial claim. We provide all necessary documentation and coach you on what to say (and what not to say).
Adjuster Inspection
Insurance sends their adjuster to inspect damage. We meet on-site with the adjuster to walk them through every detail — this dramatically improves approval rates.
Receive Scope & Estimate
Insurance sends you their approved scope of work and initial payment (ACV — Actual Cash Value). We review every line to ensure nothing was missed or underpaid.
Supplement if Needed
If insurance missed items or underpaid, we submit a supplement with proper documentation. Most supplements are approved when properly supported.
Complete the Work
Once approved, we complete your roof replacement. You pay your deductible at the start, and we bill insurance directly for the rest.
Depreciation Recovery
After work is complete, we help you claim back the depreciation (the difference between ACV and RCV). This is money you're entitled to but many homeowners don't know to claim.
Final Payout
Final insurance payment closes the claim. You have a brand-new roof with full warranty. Your only out-of-pocket expense was the deductible.
RCV vs ACV: What's the Difference?
The single most important thing to understand about your homeowners policy — and why it determines how much you actually get paid.
RCV
Insurance pays the full cost to replace your roof with new materials. No depreciation deducted. If a new roof costs $15,000, you receive $15,000 (minus your deductible).
Your deductible: $1,500
Insurance pays: $13,500
ACV
Insurance pays depreciated value — what your old roof was worth before damage. Older roofs = less payout. A 15-year-old roof may only reimburse 40-50% of replacement cost.
Depreciation (15 years): -$7,500
Insurance pays: $6,000
💡 Recoverable Depreciation
Here's what most homeowners don't realize: even with RCV policies, insurance often pays you ACV upfront and holds back the depreciation. You only receive the remaining amount (recoverable depreciation) after proving the work was completed. This is money you're entitled to but must actively claim. We help make sure you get every dollar.
Insurance Claim Problems We Solve
These are the most frustrating situations Charlotte homeowners face with insurance claims — and how we help overcome them.
Claim Denied Despite Obvious Damage
Adjusters sometimes deny claims citing "wear and tear" or "pre-existing damage" — even when damage is clearly storm-related.
Only Partial Roof Approved for Replacement
Insurance wants to repair only the damaged slope — leaving you with mismatched roof sections that look terrible and have different lifespans.
Estimate Way Below Actual Repair Cost
Insurance comes back with an estimate far below what a legitimate roofer would charge — leaving you to cover thousands out-of-pocket.
Missing Line Items in the Estimate
Adjusters often miss critical items — ventilation, flashing, code upgrades, tarp rental, debris removal — leaving money on the table.
Depreciation Never Recovered
Homeowners receive ACV payment upfront but never claim the held-back depreciation — sometimes thousands of dollars left unclaimed.
Cosmetic Damage Exclusions
Some policies exclude "cosmetic" damage — but that exclusion is often misapplied to legitimate structural issues.
Red Flags to Avoid in Claim Work
Bad contractors often take advantage of confused homeowners during insurance claims. Watch for these warning signs.
"We'll waive your deductible"
This is illegal in NC. Waiving deductibles is insurance fraud. Any contractor offering this is breaking the law and will eventually lose their license — potentially while working on your house.
"Sign this AOB (Assignment of Benefits)"
AOB forms sign over your rights to file claims and receive insurance payments directly to the contractor. Legitimate NC roofers don't need this — avoid any contractor requiring an AOB.
"Just sign here, don't worry about the blanks"
Never sign contracts with blanks, missing dates, or "TBD" pricing. Legitimate contracts have every line filled out before you sign. Contractors who pressure you to sign blank forms are planning to insert terms later.
"Pay the full claim amount upfront"
Never pay insurance claim amounts to a contractor before work begins. In NC, deposits of 33% or more are a red flag. Legitimate contractors order materials and complete most work before requesting full payment.
Door-to-door storm chasers
After major storms, out-of-state contractors roll into Charlotte, collect deposits, do shoddy work, and disappear. Always verify NC General Contractor license (nclbgc.org), insurance, and local NC business address.
Pressure to sign before adjuster arrives
Any contractor pressuring you to sign a contract before your insurance adjuster has inspected is prioritizing their interests over yours. Legitimate contractors wait for the insurance process.

Insurance Claim Questions
How much does insurance claim assistance cost?
Nothing. Our claim assistance is free when you hire us for the repair. We're paid only through insurance proceeds — you pay only your deductible. If we can't get your claim approved, you owe us nothing.
How long do I have to file a roof damage claim in NC?
Most NC homeowner policies require damage to be reported within 1 year of the event. However, sooner is always better — delayed reporting can lead to denial, and damage worsens over time. If a storm happened recently, don't wait.
Will filing a claim raise my insurance rates?
North Carolina law specifically prohibits insurers from raising rates based on weather-related claims (hail, wind, storms, hurricanes). Filing a legitimate storm damage claim should not increase your premiums. Multiple claims within a short period may have different rules — ask your agent.
My claim was denied. Is there anything I can do?
Yes — most denials can be overturned with proper documentation. We provide detailed forensic reports, meteorological evidence, and damage pattern analysis that forces insurance to reconsider. If reconsideration fails, public adjusters and formal appeals are also options. Don't give up on a legitimate claim.
What if my insurance estimate is lower than your quote?
We submit a supplement with detailed line-item justification for the difference. Insurance is legally required to cover reasonable repair costs that match current market rates. Most properly-documented supplements are approved and insurance pays the difference directly.
Can I use my own contractor instead of an insurance-recommended one?
Absolutely. You have the legal right to choose any licensed, insured contractor. Insurance-recommended contractors work for the insurance company — not for you. Choose a local contractor with a long reputation who represents your interests.
Do I need to be home during the adjuster visit?
It's helpful but not strictly required. We recommend you or we (or both) are on-site. Having a knowledgeable person meet the adjuster lets you answer questions, point out damage, and ensure nothing is missed. Adjusters who inspect alone often miss damage that's identified later.
What if I already got insurance paid out and now I need help?
We can still help. If you haven't completed repairs yet, we can review your claim, identify missed items, and submit supplements. We can also help you claim back depreciation after work is done. Call us even if you've already received your initial check.
